Songserm Ferry – Online Booking, Timetable and Reviews

Songserm is a bus and ferry operator that specializes in transporting passengers to and from the three most popular holiday islands in the Gulf of Thailand: Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. They were the first company to launch ferries to these islands and they have only kept improving since then.

Though they are not as quick as the high speed ferries from Lomprayah and Seatran, they instead get you there cheaper. Their ferries carry between 450 and 600 passengers and run 365 days a year. They have an operating permit from the Tourism Authority of Thailand meaning that there is a life jacket on board for every passenger, and the ferries are monitored by CCTV.

If you are looking to travel the Gulf of Thailand at a slower pace and at the same time save some of the vacation budget, then Songserm is the ferry company you should use. They have many departures per day, and you can even get a ferry that runs through the night, meaning you don’t have to lose a day of your vacation traveling.

Songserm Reviews

Songserm has a decent reputation among travelers as they have received a score of 3.3 out of 5 from over 1400 verified travelers with Travelfoot/12Go. Travelers consider their ferries good and reliable, though sometimes delayed for an hour or two. The reason their score isn’t higher is the buses and minivans they offer to combine the ferry trips with.

There has been numerous complaints from travelers about the, sometimes unlisted, stops and transfers these road transports do on the way to or from the piers. The buses themselves are old and the seats near the toilets are often unpleasant.

People appreciate the facilities on board the ferries and find the air conditioning set to a reasonable temperature. During some trips with bad weather the seating areas of boat might get wet and there has been times where Songserm staff unloaded luggage to the pier unprotected from rain, making the luggage soaking wet.

So all in all, if you plan on only using the ferry then Songserm is a very good option, but if you need additional transport to or from the pier then there are better options with more modern vehicles such as Lomprayah and Seatran Discovery.
