Seatran Ferry was established in 2002 with the main goal of providing a better service to the visitors and residents of Koh Samui by offering transports over the Gulf of Thailand both with a higher safety and a lower price. They now have over 17 years of experience and even operate their own pier in Donsak (Surat Thani).
In the Seatran Ferry fleet there are currently 8 boats, traveling at a speed average of between 13-16 nautical miles per hour, meaning a trip between the Seatran pier in Donsak to Koh Samui takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you plan on brining a vehicle then Seatran Ferry or Raja Ferry are your only choices as the three other operators in the Gulf, Lomprayah, Songserm and Phantip Travel only have passenger ferries.
Starting in 2004, Seatran decided to offer a new service for travelers that required higher comfort and faster speed: Seatran Discovery. The six, passenger-only, high speed yachts in the Seatran Discovery fleet are designed with luxury in mind, meaning that the tickets are often more expensive than their competitors, but in return you get to travel on newer boats that normally has less people on them.
One of the main benefits of travel with Seatran Discovery is their packages of bus/minivan and ferry transport, meaning that you can get to and from many destinations in Thailand without having to worry about finding the correct pier or end up missing the ferry due to a delay from the transport to the pier.
If you are someone who get easily seasick another advantage to keep in mind is that the Seatran Discovery ferries cut through the waves instead of riding with them like the other luxury ferries from Lomprayah do, meaning that travel on rough seas are a lot smoother.
